Headway Devon is a local charity support people whose lives have been turned upside-down by acquired brain injury. Operating across the county of Devon, the people that we support have survived life-changing illnesses and accidents - from head injuries sustained in car accidents, assaults and falls, to illnesses and conditions such as stroke, meningitis and brain tumour. Many have been told that they are lucky to be alive, but lucky is sometimes the last thing they feel when they are forced to come to terms with a future of complex physical, cognitive and emotional difficulties. Brain injury can happen "out of the blue" and can leave people having to start from scratch - learning how to walk, talk and care for themselves again. They, and their families, may never be able to return to the lives they led before. Headway Devon exists to support people through this transition - to help them to learn how to cope with their difficulties and to learn to appreciate the lives that they have now so that they can go on to enjoy happy and fulfilling futures.
