Chikumbuso, a grassroots project located in Ng’ombe compound, provides hope and opportunity to some of the

most vulnerable women and children in Lusaka, Zambia. Seven widows, meeting for mutual support, started the project

which soon grew to a one-room school for 30 children. Eventually, we transformed a bar and brothel into a vibrant

community center, transforming a symbol of desperation into one of hope.

Today, we offer free education and physical and psychosocial support for 600 children ages K - college. In

addition, we create income generation opportunities for women and young adults through our social enterprises,

job placements, and life skills training. And for those too old to care for themselves, we bring food, supplies, and

visits to lighten their load.

Chikumbuso not only cares for our community members, but also goes out into the surrounding slum, volunteering,

providing shelter, and giving hope to our neighbors and friends.
