The Florida Wildlife Hospital (FWH) is a non-profit in Brevard County, Florida. Our mission is keeping wildlife wild by providing quality, compassionate care. FWH is a Licensed Rehabilitator; unlike unlicensed "wildlife rescues," we must abide by practices ensuring wildlife protection and preservation.
Brevard is home to various native wildlife and migratory birds including 50 threatened or endangered species. Rapid population growth and widespread development mean our wildlife is being harmed through human interactions and the loss of habitats. FWH has formal collaborations with leading research institutions, providing “boots on the ground” data; we are part of a statewide effort to mitigate the effects of development and maintain biodiversity. We receive no public funding.
Since 1973, FWH has provided veterinary care and rehabilitation for sick, injured, and orphaned animals, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Each year we treat 5,000 patients and answer 8,000 calls. Our species-appropriate environments include a baby nursery, seabird enclosure, flight barn, raptor cages, raccoon enclosure, and reptile and turtle enclosures.
We provide 100 outreach and education events each year and inspire younger generations through internships and education. We have over 100 volunteers, who donated 15,460 hours last year.
