At FareShare we believe in a society where food is not wasted and no one goes hungry. We rescue quality surplus food from supermarkets, farmers and food manufacturers and grow our own vegetables to cook free, nutritious meals for people in need. FareShare first began in 2001 when a group of friends got together on Saturday mornings to cook 300 pies for local charities. Since then we've grown into Australia's largest charity kitchen. With the help of 1,000 volunteers we cook over 6,000 meals a day from our Melbourne kitchen. In 2018, we opened our second kitchen, located in Brisbane, which has the capacity to cook five million meals a year. Unfortunately we don't receive any ongoing government funding so we rely on the generosity of donors to achieve our mission.
