It was painfully evident (and still is) that not nearly enough attention, resources and effort was being directed to address the shocking extent of animal abuse and neglect occurring in the rural and regional outskirts of Cairns. Formed in 2019 by a small group of dedicated animal lovers who wanted to support grassroots animal rescue efforts in the region, Friends of Bush Pups Inc. is a 100% volunteer-driven not-for-profit based in Cairns, Queensland. Since its inception, through fundraising activities and ongoing donor support, Friends of Bush Pups Inc. have financially supported in the desexing, rehabilitation, and rehoming of thousands of bush dogs and pups. Donations received mean a meal for one of the many bush pups that go unfed. It means a bush pup, riddled with parasites and afflicted with skin conditions, will receive much needed treatment and relief. They mean that instead of being destined to a life of continual breeding, another bush pup will be desexed.  They mean the bush pups with neglected injuries and illnesses will receive vital veterinary care, or another bush pup will be rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed.
