Coalition for Civil Freedoms

The mission of the Coalition for Civil Freedoms is to defend civil liberties and freedoms, promote a fair U.S. criminal justice system, and advocate for the rights of political prisoners targeted in the war on terror.

CCF continues to work tirelessly to give relief and support to our wrongfully held prisoners as we work towards their freedom. These prisoners, mostly Muslims, have been entrapped in unfair prosecutions based on suspicion of their religious ideology and not on any crime. They have been discriminated against, abused, and confined for years in solitary confinement and in special “Muslim” prisons (Communication Management Units).

With your support, our legal team filed compassionate release motions that resulted in freedom for seven of these political prisoners and several additional cases saw meaningful progress this year.

With your support, we expanded our Prisoner Support Program, increasing regular communication with incarcerated individuals through letters, emails, phone calls, and our penpal program.  We also showcase prisoner art and poetry at events and in galleries, giving them a voice to the outside world. These connections have been a lifeline for many who endure extreme isolation.

With your support, our Prisoner Sponsorship Program provides monthly financial assistance to indigent prisoners who have no family, or whose families who are struggling themselves and unable to help their loved one. This allows prisoners to buy much needed hygiene products, make calls to families, and much more.

And for those prisoners finally returning home, our Prisoner Release Grants help cover critical needs such as housing, transportation, clothing, and medical care. This financial assistance offers some stability during the most vulnerable stage of reentry.

CCF also continues to stand by their families, who have been profiled, shamed and shunned by society.

Through our community education and political advocacy, we speak at conferences and organize educational forums, raising awareness about discriminatory prosecutions. Our weekly news digest continues to reach thousands of supporters.

The need for our organization is critical. CCF operates on a shoe-string  budget, with staff and volunteers working tirelessly to meet the needs of prisoners and families.
