The Chicago Housing Initiative is a citywide coalition of housing advocacy organizations composed of Chicagoans who have homes in private, public and subsidized housing, are without homes and/or at risk of homelessness across the City of Chicago. We believe that homelessness, housing insecurity and the threat of eviction that flows from treating housing as commodity. We believe that housing is not a commodity and more than a right. Commodities are bought and sold and rights are always in flux. Housing is instead a key component to stable, democratic society and we, as a community-led, organizing and advocacy organization, are working to expand, create and protect affordable, accessible and public housing in our city.
