Since 1967, Boys & Girls Clubs has provided academic assistance, positive mentors and role models, sports and other wholesome activities that reinforce positive youth development. By providing a safe place for kids to go after school and during the summer, help with homework, STEM classes, nutritious meals, positive mentors, leadership training and college scholarships, we help disadvantaged children and teens to break out of the cycle of poverty and pursue rewarding, self-sufficient lives. Programming is rooted in our research-based Formula for Impact. Relying on targeted programs, high-yield activities, and regular attendance, the goal is to produce the following outcomes for at-risk youth: • Academic success • Good character and citizenship • Healthy lifestyles. Our Formula works. As compared to youth and teens in general, Club Members: • report higher grades • volunteer more and more regularly • engage in more physical activity every week • observe better dietary practices • are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as prescription use, smoking, marijuana use, sexual activity and alcohol use; In fact, 93% of Club seniors are on-track to graduate high school with a plan for the future. Also, by providing safe, productive environments for kids and teens, we enable parents to work, many of whom work in small businesses in the service economy. We know anecdotally that the financial education programs our Members participate in result in learning at home. Members have reported bringing that education back to their parents, thus helping the entire family to participate more fully and successfully in the economy.
