Cycling is one of the most effective solutions to major economic and environmental problems. Make a massive impact by helping us move people out of poverty. Bikes Without Borders is a federally-registered charity, using bikes and bike-related solutions as tools for development in marginalized communities around the world. We believe in the bicycle as a means of increasing access to vital health services, economic opportunity, educational empowerment and independence. We serve marginalized individuals and communities where bikes and bike-related solutions can have a significant, positive impact on community development by providing research projects, bicycles, repair and maintenance training and program support to residents through partnerships with local community and social welfare organizations. Currently our focus is on the Great Bike Recycle program, whereby we accept donations of used bikes and, with our team of volunteer mechanics and community partners, refurbish the bikes and donate them to people in need, along with locks, safety gear and training. Our recent Great Bike Recycle focus is on newcomers and refugees (Bikes 4 Refugees). This campaign will assist refugees in Canada, Burundi and Somalia. The bikes help the recipients access employment, education and training opportunities that they may otherwise have difficulty accessing due to transportation limitations.
