BDSRA Australia is a not-for-profit charitable organisation dedicated to improving the well-being and quality of life of patients and families suffering from the fatal Batten disease, a rare progressive inherited neurological disorder primarily affecting children. Affected (once healthy) children slowly lose their ability to walk, talk, eat and see, suffering worsening seizures as the disease progresses before finally succumbing far too young. BDSRA is run by volunteers, with 100% of donations dedicated to funding research, providing family support services, advancing education, raising awareness and advocating for legislative action. It is our hope that one day we will unravel the mysteries of Batten Disease, and either find a cure or at least develop treatments to ensure a better quality of life for those living with the disease.
