Baildon Imagination Library was established in 2015 with the aim of developing a love of reading for life for children living in BD17. We want children to discover books out of choice, developing their imagination starting with picture books and moving on to reading themselves. We also want to encourage family bonding and for parents and carers to use their local public free libraries to find more books and other activities their children can enjoy. We have the support of health professionals, headteachers and local pre-schools and nurseries who recognise the importance of books and how they help with speech development, literacy and imagination.
We need to raise around £600 every month to ensure we can send quality, age appropriate books to under 5s living in BD17 every month, free of charge. We currently have 278 children registered.
Our only costs are the books; we are all volunteers.
