Blind Sports SA is a not for profit South Australian disability sporting organisation (registered with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission) which actively encourages people who are blind or have low vision to take part in the sport of their choice by promoting and developing competitive and recreational sports of all kinds and representing their interests in appropriate areas.Blind Sports SA receives minimal government funding, (insufficent to employ even a 2x a week parttime employer), which means the majority of the organisations time is spent seeking funding to survive, as opposed to undertaking our core mission. Therefore we seek your support to enable us to spend more time ensuring people who are blind or have low vision have the opportunity to live an improved healthy lifestyle. The World Health Organisation (amongst others) recognises that people who are blind or have low vision are more susceptible to a poor quality of life, experience lower rates of employment, low self-esteem, loss of self-identity, poor physical and mental health, social isolation and   higher rates of depression and anxiety leading to a greater financial impact on the broader economy and healthcare system. Lives are enriched through participation in sport and our mission is to work with our members and key stakeholders to support them, increase participation and ensure that programs are delivered which are of the highest standard and meet the needs of our individual participants, whilst also seeking to educate the wider community by raising awareness of how sports can be modified for the inclusion of all participants.
