Young mothers often struggle with the responsibilities and challenges of parenthood; they suffer from isolation, lack of self-confidence, poor mental health as well as poverty, poor housing and domestic abuse. YMSN runs courses to teach vital skills, such as cooking, nutrition, managing the home and limited finances, creative skills to reuse and recycle clothing and provides a community for young mums to communicate and share problems. As a result of Covid we have had to bring these services online, which is excellent at supporting individuals, but has stretched our resources in terms of engaging with the numbers of participants we want to reach. We are working to increase our reach and have recently started several new initiatives to engage more widely and we will need to increase our capacity and capabilities to maximise the benefit from this work. With home schooling and working from home mothers well being and that of their children need increased attention as they are often the focus of many of these additional difficulties, including poverty, hunger and domestic abuse.
