The British Institute of Human Rights
The British Institute of Human Rights

BIHR empowers communities across the UK to make positive social change and secure everyday justice in health, care, education, welfare and housing, through the practical use of our Human Rights Act. We don’t go to court; we work on the ground, with communities. We don’t offer legal advice; we build capacity so people can advocate for themselves. We don’t campaign for new laws without implementation; we make laws work to support people's human rights.

Our Human Rights Act is the tool that can enable everyone to live with equal dignity and respect, every day. As a small charity working across the UK we enable people and community groups to use human rights advocacy, and we work with organisations that have public power to live up to their human rights duties. We amplify this real-life evidence of the difference our Human Rights Act makes with policy and law makers, so that people’s legally protected rights and their reality is at the heart of national decision-making.
