About us
WTAW Press is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that invests in the artistic development of writers; fosters a thriving literary community; and inspires a passion for literature through publishing books, producing author readings, and providing online workshops and manuscript consultations.
WTAW Press publishes exceptional, enduring literary books. As an independent, nonprofit publisher, we have the agility to select outstanding manuscripts likely to be overlooked in a mainstream corporate publishing industry focused on the bottom line. Our aim is to enrich the literary landscape and give a platform to deserving voices.
Literature is foundational to the growth, success, and health of our society. We believe in literature's power to help develop self-understanding, empathy, resilience, and connection, and to move and inspire us with artistry. WTAW publishes and champions books that possess a mastery of craft, take artistic and intellectual risks, and showcase a diverse array of voices and experiences.
Through all facets of our work, we strive to do good. We recognize that the publishing industry has historically excluded marginalized groups, and WTAW Press is dedicated to creating a more representative publishing industry for all people. A meaningful literary world is one that decentralizes, and honors the diversity of, the human experience. It is paramount that we listen to and elevate writers whom—due to race, class, gender, geography, disability, and more—the traditional publishing industry has ignored or excluded. We are committed to the ongoing process of making our practices equitable and socially responsible. You can read more about our efforts here.
WTAW Press is directed by founding publisher Peg Alford Pursell. Our Board of Directors is a small, hardworking group of authors, all of whom are active members of the literary community. Our organizational culture is dedicated to growth and celebrates the personal and industry-based work necessary to dismantle individual and collective inherent biases. We're proud of the culture we've created, and we're eager to continue our work and progress.
