Treasure House Fashions (THF) is a nonprofit women’s resale shop that serves as a vital community resource for women across the Greater Pittsburgh region. More than simply a place to purchase clothing, THF functions as a shared “closet” for over 60 partner women’s agencies supporting women navigating crisis, transition, and recovery. Through these partnerships, THF distributes gift certificates for clothing to women experiencing homelessness, addiction recovery, reentry after incarceration, domestic violence, human trafficking, unplanned pregnancy, military transition, cancer and other serious health conditions, unemployment, poverty, and displacement caused by natural disasters such as fire or flooding. In each of these circumstances, women need appropriate clothing for daily life, work, court appearances, medical appointments, interviews, and community engagement. Yet clothing represents far more than a basic material need. For many women served by THF, the deeper issue is a diminished sense of self-worth. Crisis, trauma, and economic instability often erode confidence, identity, and agency. Treasure House Fashions exists to address both the tangible and intangible needs of women by offering high-quality clothing in an environment rooted in encouragement, respect, and affirmation. THF’s mission—“promoting the dignity and self-esteem of women, particularly women in transition or crisis. Outward appearance is not an accurate reflection of your wort, but it can affirm the treasure that you truly are.”—is lived out daily through personal interactions, thoughtful presentation, and an intentional atmosphere of welcome.
