Our mission is to celebrate heritage and build community through music. While our programs are delivered to anyone who engages with us, we serve and center young people of the global majority - Black and Brown youth from across King County. 

The core of our organization is a group of musicians who span three generations and a wide breadth of cultural backgrounds. Our community is composed not only of the students these musicians teach and mentor, but also the families of many of these staff and students. A cross section of our students, staff and board gather monthly for restorative justice circles, and annually for events including our week-long Blues Camp in Pt. Townsend and a camping retreat in Mist, Oregon.

By celebrating and highlighting the role of culture bearers, and giving young people a meaningful voice in decision-making while training them to understand themselves as people of culture, rooted in a heritage-based community, we steadily attract students and families who are eager to connect, explore, and embrace counternarratives. We create access and demonstrate the value of people of all backgrounds using our Layers of Heritage framework, Face the Music curriculum, and Circle Work process. 

In addition to the Black and Brown youth who live at the heart of our organization and mission, we also serve a broad range of musicians, educators and music-lovers from across the greater Seattle area, both as audience members and as participants in our programs.
