Pacific Forest Trust’s mission is to sustain America’s forests for all of their public benefits of wood, water, wildlife, and people’s well-being, in cooperation with landowners and communities. 

We are a visionary “think-and-do” non-profit organization of scientists, conservationists, policy wonks, entrepreneurs, and outdoor enthusiasts that has helped shape forest conservation and climate policy since 1993. PFT is unique among forest conservation and stewardship organizations. Engaging the science, business, forestry, conservation, sustainability, environmentalist, tribal, and rural communities we find common ground in protecting forests.
Our commitment is to the whole forest, for nature and wildlife, as well as for rural economies. Our goal is to align economic forces with ecologic realities to build a new resource economy grounded in conservation.
Our climate and water policy proposals have become state and national law with global impact, managing forests to reduce CO2 emissions, produce water, and protect wildlife while also yielding sustainable timber products.
So far, we’ve conserved more than 360,000 acres of vital forestland in the Pacific Northwest. We currently hold 38 conservation easements covering more than 130,000 acres in California and Oregon and manage four forests (14,000-acres) for climate and fire-resiliency, including PFT's own 1,110-acre Mt. Ashland Demonstration Forest near Ashland, OR.
