About us

The mission of the Molinari Institute is to educate the public, open critical discussions, and foster innovative research concerning the tradition of market anarchism -- with particular though not exclusive emphasis on its left-wing form (pro-free-market but anti-capitalist) -- and its application to the philosophical, cultural, and material foundations of a flourishing and open society. Toward these ends, we establish fellowships, publish both classic works and new research, and disseminate information to the public through the creative use of media.

The Institute takes its name from Gustave de Molinari (1819-1912), the first thinker to describe how market mechanisms might provide security services in the absence of the state.

We host historical and contemporary writings on our website, and publish an academic journal, The Molinari Review. Through a coordinate organization, the Molinari Society, we organize panels at both academic and activist conferences. Our most visible project is the Center for a Stateless Society (c4ss.org), a cooperative online endeavor that seeks to explain and defend the idea of vibrant social cooperation without aggression, oppression, or centralized authority.
