We provide donor human milk to sick premature babies in hospital neonatal intensive care units and families at home through the Hearts Milk Bank. Much like donated blood, donor human milk can help save lives. A serious condition called necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) which kills more babies each year than childhood leukaemia. Human milk helps to prevent against this condition, so if a mum is not able to produce her own milk, donor milk acts like a medicine to protect the baby. We supply over 50 neonatal units with donor milk across England & Wales and are also unique in routinely supporting families in the community such as mothers with cancer, HIV, low milk supply and other health conditions. We urgently need to scale up so we can help more babies receive this crucial life-saving service.
