About us

Albany was one of the founding bodies for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). We have played a part, therefore, in the creation of professional standards in counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. Today, we continue to adhere to BACP’s ethical code, which is recognised worldwide. Our clinical team has specialist training and development. We aim for all our services to be responsive, effective and continually improving. We have a small, friendly, diverse team of therapists, supported by our Practice manager, who all receive regular supervision at Albany from our experienced senior psychotherapists. Clinical governance is overseen by our Clinical Director. Albany is a registered charity with the Charity Commission, governed by our Board of Trustees. We are an active supporter of the UK government’s commitment now to bring forward legislation to ban Conversion Therapy. We are affiliated with the LGBT Consortium and BACP. Founded in 1958, we are proud to be the UK’s first and longest established charity devoted to promoting happy and healthy LGBT+ relationships, and sexual wellbeing for all. Our founding vision is as relevant today as in 1958: we believe in an open, tolerant society where diverse sexualities are respected and celebrated, along with different faiths, beliefs and ethnicities. We see our work contributing towards bringing about a fairer world in which people care for each other as well as for themselves, and for our shared cultural and natural environments.
