About us

Substance Misuse Limestone Coast (SMLC) is a group of professionals working to facilitate community-based solutions to address issues arising from drug and alcohol use across the Limestone Coast.  SMLC partners with key agencies and service providers in the region's seven Local Government Areas to deliver alcohol and other drug (AOD health promotion, education, and workforce training and advocacy.  Since its inception in 2015, SMLC has become a strong leader in the regional and state AOD space, moving from an initial working party to an incorporated body with charity status in October 2020.

SMLC has an in-depth understanding of our community's needs and is focused on supporting and implementing resources and solutions underpinned by national and international evidence-based best practices.

SMLC's strategic vision includes building awareness of emerging trends in AOD issues and bringing best-practice solutions to the Limestone Coast.  These include dual diagnosis capability practices and services that support people with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions.

SMLC is taking major steps to transform AOD services and support in the Limestone Coast and deliver the scope, depth, and quality of services equivalent to those received by residents in the adjacent Victorian rural populations.

SMLC is currently funded through grants from the Department of Health and Aged Care.
