Special Olympics Auckland champions the ability of ID people to develop sporting skills. Through teamwork the athletes develop social skills and the ability to lead during the training sessions. The athletes are assisted by volunteers who are enthusiastic about the sport and the people they work with.

Special Olympics Auckland depends on donations, grants and charitable support for all costs. Minimizing the amount which must be funded by athletes and their parents or carers opens the opportunity for development to a larger cohort.
