Founded in 1975, Southside SPCA is an independent, donor-supported, no-kill animal welfare organization serving 12 counties in south-central Virginia. Based in Meherrin, Virginia, we rescue homeless, abandoned, and abused dogs and cats, provide compassionate care and medical treatment, and work to place them in loving, permanent homes.

Our mission extends beyond rescue. Through our low-cost spay and neuter programs, public education, and community outreach, we address pet overpopulation at its source and help families keep their beloved pets. We also work with local animal control agencies and rescue partners to save animals at risk of euthanasia.

Southside SPCA cares for dozens of animals every day, many arriving sick, injured, neglected, or without anywhere else to turn. Every animal receives food, shelter, veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay or neuter services, along with the opportunity for a healthier, happier future.

As an independent nonprofit, we rely heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers to carry out our lifesaving mission. Every contribution helps provide essential care, save vulnerable animals, reduce unnecessary euthanasia, and build a more humane future for pets and the communities they call home.
