SLC's Mission:
Ensuring snow leopard survival and conserving mountain landscapes by expanding environmental awareness and sharing innovative practices through community stewardship and partnerships. The Snow Leopard Conservancy (SLC) works with local partners and herder communities, people on the front line in preserving the biodiversity of Central Asia’s high mountains by providing technical and financial assistance for activities linked to stewardship and biodiversity conservation. Our programs build community ownership of projects, long-term self-reliance, and ecosystem health.

What we aim to solve:
Snow Leopard Conservancy addresses the complex challenges threatening the survival of snow leopards and other predators across their high-altitude mountain habitats. These vulnerable apex predators face multiple interconnected threats, including habitat loss, illegal poaching, human-wildlife conflict, competition with domestic animals, and emerging risks such as transmissible diseases and climate change. Beyond protecting the species itself, SLC recognizes the interconnection between snow leopards and people who share their mountain landscape. By placing communities at the heart of conservation efforts, SLC develops solutions where local people lead and own the process. This community-centered approach integrates Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge with scientific methods to transform conflict into coexistence, creating conservation models that respect both wildlife needs and human livelihoods while honoring the multifaceted relationships between people and these iconic cats.
