SaveNature’s mission is to advance educational equity by providing underserved students from Pre-K through K-12 with meaningful access to high-quality, science-based environmental learning. Our Insect Discovery Lab and Nature Navigators programs expands opportunities for young children to develop environmental literacy, curiosity, and a personal connection to stewardship that benefits both current and future generations.

Nature Navigators increases access to evidence-based, literacy-rich early learning experiences through the Insect Discovery Lab, ensuring that children in under-resourced communities receive engaging, developmentally appropriate science education. Currently, 43% of all Insect Discovery Lab presentations serve Pre-K students, reflecting the critical need for early exposure to hands-on scientific exploration.

Underserved youth in Pre-K through 2nd grade often lack equitable opportunities to experience entomology and nature-based learning. The program integrates early science education, literacy skill-building, and learning-through-play approaches that foster confidence, resilience, and overall well-being.

SaveNature.Org’s Insect Discovery Lab, established in 1998, is one of the Bay Area’s most successful educational outreach programs. Since its inception, the program has inspired more than 678,380 children across nine Bay Area counties and currently impacts approximately 36,000 students annually.

SaveNature believes that time spent engaging with nature enriches quality of life by strengthening science and health literacy. By helping children and families understand the relevance of science in everyday life, we cultivate informed, empowered learners prepared to make thoughtful decisions about their health, communities, and environment.
