About us
Safe Humane® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization doing business in Chicago as Safe Humane Chicago with a unique mission: to create safe, humane communities by inspiring positive relationships between people and animals. The organization focuses on education, advocacy, and second chances for people and dogs impacted by violence or other trauma using the positive, transformative power of the human-animal bond. Safe Humane programs are built on community and collaboration, and they provide opportunities for participants to help one another. We need your support to sustain these programs.
Our core programs are Lifetime Bonds, Dog-Centered Programs, Collaborative Justice, and Community Engagement.
• Lifetime Bonds programming provides hands-on opportunities for dogs and people impacted by trauma to help one another heal and to learn and practice important life skills. Both experience the benefits of relationships based on trust and respect.
• Dog-Centered programs are managed at Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC). We developed a first-of-its-kind Court Case Dog program for dogs rescued by law enforcement and impounded at CACC.
• Our Court Advocacy group follows court cases involving abuse of companion animals, and we participate in training court personnel.
• Safe Humane manages Corporate and Group Volunteer Days at CACC and other community events.
