SA Police Legacy supports police when the unthinkable happens. A registered charity established in 1989, SA Police Legacy provides support to bereaved or seriously unwell SA police officers (and their families). Care may be via financial grants or through emotional support. SA Police Legacy distributed over $150,000 in grants to Police families across South Australia in the 2024-25 financial year.

• Assistance for bereaved children includes but is not limited to:

  • Education grants to help cover school costs

  • Wellbeing grant to cover costs of hobbies or other activities that improve their wellbeing.

  • Safe Driving grant funds the majority of driving lessons costs.

  • Connection programs including social events which brings bereaved children together so they never feel alone.

• Assistance for bereaved spouses/partners includes;

  • Lunches and day trips to connect with other widows/ers and reduce loneliness and isolation;

  • Home visits.

  • Support groups

  • Financial support to update Wills

• Assistance for bereaved or seriously unwell police officers includes;

  • Bereavement grant (e.g. an initial payment when a tragedy occurs to help with immediate, unexpected costs);

  • Member Health Grant which helps to reduce the financial burden of medical bills.
