Roots Charter High School is a farm-based public charter high school in Utah built on a simple but powerful belief: every young person needs to feel like they belong and that they matter.

Roots operates around the 243 Method, a framework for relationship-centered education that prioritizes connection before correction. The name comes from the same place as Mr. Rogers' famous 143. It means "We Love You."

The 243 Method is built on 2 Core Needs (Belonging and Significance), 4 Guiding Principles (Encouragement over Criticism, Cooperation over Control, Personal Responsibility, and Growth Mindset), and 3 Essential Skills (Emotional Regulation, Empathetic Communication, and Conflict Resolution).

At Roots, students aren't managed. They're known. Staff are trained to respond to behavior with curiosity rather than punishment, and to see the person behind the problem. Students also work and run a six-acre farm on campus, growing food, building responsibility, and learning what it means to tend something over time. Hands in the soil. Real work. Real stakes.

The result is a school culture where students who have struggled elsewhere find their footing, raise their voice, and take ownership of their future.
