About us
Dear supporter
Please find below some information about Jamie and OurJay Foundation.
OurJay Foundation was set up in memory of our precious son, Jamie.
Jamie was 18 years old and the kindest, funniest, most caring young man you could ever wish to meet. A keen fisherman, who loved nothing more than driving his car, listening to his favourite band, The Killers, watching Star Wars or playing computer with his friends, with his little bearded dragon sat on his head and his dog laying across his lap.
In the early hours of New Years day 2022, Jamie suffered an unexplained cardiac arrest whilst out watching fireworks. Catastrophically, the nearest accessible defibrillator (which was 2 minutes away) was locked inside a school, meaning Jamies friends could not reach it. The police were first to reach Jamie, but sadly there was no defibrillator in the Police vehicle. The ambulance was delayed, due to handover delays at the nearest hospital 15 miles away, meaning paramedics were not at Jamies side until 20 minutes later.
Jamies heart was restarted in the ambulance, but due to oxygen starvation to his brain, we were devastated to say goodbye to our beautiful Jamie on the 5th January 2022. Jamie was an organ donor, so he saved 5 lives on the night we said goodbye to him, including a life saving liver transplant to an 8 month old baby girl.
OurJay Foundation was set up by Jamies mum and family to raise funds to purchase and install accessible defibrillators in communities, to try to prevent other families going through the same awful loss that we have felt in losing Jamie.
Each accessible defibrillator costs £1200.00 and requires installation by a registered electrician.
To date, OurJay has installed 372 accessible defibrillators plus 125 portable defibrillators and 84 Snap Fitness 24/7 gym defibrillators.
OurJays defibrillators have now played a part in saving 30 lives since OurJay Foundation was launched. There have also been over 600 activations on the accessible defibrillators via 999 in the last 3.5 years.
We are always keen to explore sites across the UK and have defibrillators as far north as Manchester/Liverpool, as far south as Newquay and even 2 in Southern Ireland.
We would be so grateful of any support towards raising awareness around the need for accessible defibrillators or any support with funds, to continue to purchase and install these life saving pieces of equipment.
