The Northeast Earth Coalition: Empowering Communities for a Greener Future

The Northeast Earth Coalition (NEEC) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization devoted to empowering communities in New Jersey and throughout the Northeast to protect the environment, grow food locally, and strengthen community resilience. By focusing on practical, community-led solutions, NEEC bridges environmental restoration, food security, and sustainability education—making a tangible impact in the neighborhoods it serves. 

Our Mission and Reach

NEEC’s mission is realized through service to towns including Montclair, Bloomfield, East Orange, Cedar Grove, Clifton, and Passaic. In these communities, NEEC’s programs directly address the needs of vulnerable populations, especially seniors and people with disabilities, by operating community gardens that provide healthy, locally grown food to those in need.

Environmental and Food Security Initiatives

NEEC’s environmental efforts center on creating habitats for wildlife and pollinators, restoring local environments, and educating the public about sustainable gardening practices. Through its Community Food Network, NEEC operates a Free Little Pantry in 17 localities, providing around-the-clock support to individuals facing food insecurity. The organization’s Community Outreach Program further empowers residents by raising awareness of environmental protection and the importance of local food production.

Grassroots Action and Impact

Widely recognized for its grassroots approach, NEEC implements projects that unite neighbors and volunteers in meaningful action. The coalition is powered by individual donations and does not receive public funding, making community support vital to its continued operations and growth.
