About us

WE BELIEVE LOVE HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE North Amity Dog Rescue is a registered non-profit society on Vancouver Island BC dedicated to saving and improving the lives of dogs in Canadian and US shelters that are at risk of being euthanized due to a lack of space and resources. We also help dogs in northern Canadian communities in need of rescue and also will accept local Vancouver Island owner surrenders if we have foster care available. We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a shelter building. We started NADRS to become part of a growing movement to defend and speak for the defenseless and to educate and promote the importance of spaying and neutering animals to end their needless suffering and abandonment. Millions of unwanted healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized each year simply because there are not enough committed homes to provide them with a lifetime of love and care. By adopting a dog with a rescue organization or at a shelter, these numbers can be reduced by reducing the demand for puppy mills and backyard breeders to sell dogs. Our biggest hope is changing behaviour – the number of dogs needing homes is staggering – we all have to do something to make an impact! You can help save lives by simply ensuring that all of your pets are spayed and neutered and encourage your family and friends to join us in our efforts to end overpopulation. OUR CODE OF ETHICS We believe that companion animals are a product of human intervention and that we have a special obligation to them in regard to humane treatment and responsible stewardship. We believe in the intrinsic dignity and sanctity of animal life We believe all animals are entitled to be free from suffering, abuse and exploitation. We believe we have an obligation to alleviate suffering. We believe we have an obligation to prevent cruelty. We believe we have a duty to protect and care for the suffering and homeless. We believe that our values, decisions, conduct and behaviour should set the tone and be a model for others in their care and treatment of animals.
