Vote for National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey to share $70,000 this Grants Round.
About us
The National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey (NFB of NJ) is a 501(c)(3) volunteer membership organization and the state affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the largest organization of blind people in the United States. The NFB of NJ brings together blind individuals from across New Jersey to share resources, provide support, and take collective action to advance equality, independence, and full participation in society.
The NFB of NJ is a diverse, grassroots organization of people who are blind, have low vision, are deafblind, interested sighted individuals, and their families, friends, and supporters. Through local chapters, committees, groups, statewide programs, outreach initiatives, and dedicated volunteers, we provide peer support, mentoring, leadership development, information, and advocacy that empower blind people to live the lives they want. We believe blindness is not the characteristic that defines a person's future and that, with high expectations, training, opportunity, and determination, blind people can achieve their personal, educational, and professional goals.
Our members work together to change public perceptions of blindness, promote equal access to education, employment, transportation, technology, healthcare, recreation, and community life, and advocate for policies that expand opportunity and protect the civil rights of blind people. We also provide guidance to individuals adjusting to vision loss, support blind students, working-age adults, and seniors, and foster independence through education, mentorship, and community engagement. Whether someone is newly experiencing vision loss, pursuing an education or career, or simply seeking connection with others who understand the challenges and opportunities of blindness, the NFB of NJ offers a welcoming community where members can learn, lead, and thrive.
Founded in 1976, the National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. For five decades, we have worked to raise expectations, expand opportunities, and improve the lives of blind New Jerseyans through advocacy, education, and collective action. Guided by our philosophy—We care, we share, we grow, we make a difference—we continue building a more inclusive and accessible New Jersey while advancing the mission of the National Federation of the Blind: helping blind people live the lives they want.
