Motherless Daughters Australia (MDA) is the only national charity dedicated to supporting, connecting, and advocating for women and girls whose mums have died, no matter their age or life stage. We exist because mother loss a profound, lifelong experience that reshapes identity, relationships, and wellbeing.

In Australia, 3.9 million women have lost their mother, with 1.2 million experiencing this loss before age 44. The impacts are far reaching: heightened risks of anxiety, depression, loneliness, disrupted careers, financial strain, and even physical health issues. Yet, until MDA was founded in 2013, there was no dedicated space to find understanding, share stories, and receive tailored support.
Through peer programs, community events, advocacy, and the world’s largest research study on mother loss, MDA ensures no daughter grieves alone. Our approach is reshaping the grief support landscape.
