About us
The Walnut Creek Crawdads baseball team hopes to become a permanent member of the Tri-Valley community and needs your financial support to make it happen.
The Crawdads are a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status under the "More Than a Game " charitable group (EIN 272164949). A proud member of the California Collegiate League (CCL) - arguably one of the top five collegiate summer leagues in the US - the team provides a venue for young men to further develop their athletic/life skills while competing against some of college baseball's very best talent. The Crawdads also contribute to the community by providing summer entertainment for baseball fans, families, youth sports leagues, local businesses, and other residents in the area. The team currently plays its home games at Monte Vista High School in Danville, CA.
Each summer, players come to the Crawdads from colleges and universities across the country such as Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Rice, Arizona, USC, and Cal. Players live with volunteer host-families during the season and play a 45+ game schedule over a 2-month period that begins in early June. The team travels up and down the state of California for games, heading as far north as Sonoma and far south as San Luis Obispo. As a non-profit organization, the Crawdads rely almost exclusively on private donations and volunteer resources to fund operations during the season and throughout the year. These expenses include - but are not limited to - league fees, field rental, uniforms, equipment/gear, umpires, transportation, hotels, athletic trainer, nominal coaching stipends, advertising, and other marketing-related activities.
The Walnut Creek Crawdads are currently managed and coached by Brant Cummings. Coach Cummings is a baseball lifer who (in addition to his day job) gives selflessly and generously of his time, energy, knowledge, and personal financial resources in support of the Crawdads on a year-round basis. He has coached baseball for over 30 years at multiple levels, including positions with Bishop O’Dowd High School, Laney College, Sierra College, and Diablo Valley College. In 2015 he won a CCL championship with the Neptune Beach Pearl - a team that featured 15 players who ended up in the professional baseball ranks.
Coach Cummings and a core team of volunteers have a vision ... 1) to transform the Walnut Creek Crawdads into one of the premiere organizations and teams in the California Collegiate League, 2) to continue to develop, mentor, and inspire young men in pursuit of their baseball dreams, and 3) to become a mainstay in the local community while providing wholesome entertainment for local youth, families, baseball fans, and other residents.
