The Moore County Citizens’ Pet Responsibility Committee (PRC) is a unique organization in Moore County, North Carolina.  Our mission is to create and drive solutions to the pet overpopulation crisis in Moore County.  Our goals revolve around prevention: prevention of unwanted litters; prevention of diseases like rabies, heartworm, parvo, distemper and feline leukemia; prevention of fleas and ticks and the risk they pose, especially to very young and older pets; and prevention of pets being relinquished to local shelters. We do this by leveraging subsidized spay and neuter, through several Pet Pantries, along with an extensive education program for the fourth graders of Moore County.     

We started 18 years ago with a six-session education program on pet responsibility for fourth graders, gradually expanding to almost all of the public schools in Moore County and several of the private schools.  We now reach over 800 students a year with this program.  We also have Therapy Dog Teams who work with students to develop reading skills, visit residents in senior living facilities, comfort patients undergoing chemo treatments, and sit with patients and their families in hospice.
