Midwest Marsupial Carers Inc
About us
Midwest Marsupial Carer’s Incorporated (MMCI) is a non-profit organisation situated in Western Australia’s Midwest. Our dedicated team of carers provides compassionate care to approximately 100 baby kangaroos (joeys) each year. These joeys, including Red Kangaroos, Western Grey Kangaroos, and Euros (Wallaroo), arrive in various conditions and ages—ranging from tiny, 180-gram (unfurred) pinkies to 5-kilogram juvenile joeys. Joeys are displacement from their mob from tragic circumstances such as fence entanglement, motor vehicle accidents, dog attacks, or professional and amateur shooters. Our mission at MMCI is clear: rescue, rehabilitate, raise, and release. Our devoted carers reside in different townships across the Midwest and Gascoyne-Murchison regions of Western Australia. They generously volunteer their time and resources to ensure that these unique Australian animals thrive and are eventually released back into their natural habitat. Caring for an orphaned joey involves an annual cost of approximately $2000 per joey, covering expenses from rescue to release. Daily costs include provisions like milk, grains, and hay, while less frequent expenses are associated with veterinary fees, pouch-making, building release pens, and pen repairs. Together, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these remarkable marsupials!
