The Lemur Conservation Foundation is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the primates of Madagascar through managed breeding, scientific research, education, and art. 

Of the more than 110 species of lemur, 98% are threatened with extinction. LCF utilizes programs including managed breeding, rainforest preservation, worldwide and community-based conservation education, local and international student training/educational programs, and artistic outreach to help accomplish its goal of saving lemurs from extinction. This combination of education programs and conservation initiatives protect endangered lemurs while inspiring empathy, understanding, and appreciation of nature’s biodiversity.

Programs with great community impact include the Ako Conservation Education Program, internships/field schools, volunteer programs, and the World Lemur Festival.

The Ako Conservation Education Program distributes free education kits to teachers with students in grades K-5.

Internships and field schools are offered to undergraduate and post-graduate students. Internships provide intensive, three- and seven-month programs to those pursuing degrees in conservation, animal husbandry and related fields. Field schools provide housing and training to groups of 10 to 20 students and their professors, typically for one to two weeks.

The World Lemur Festival, a week-long online international art contest and conservation-themed event, reaches thousands of people annually.
