In the heart of Chestertown, Maryland is the Cat Colloquium – a place for the community to come together in the company of cats.The Cat Colloquium is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (legal name KIT Cares, Inc.) whose mission is to create a community that advocates for animals and children in a warm, friendly, and inquisitive way. Since 2020 the Cat Colloquium has served as the permanent home to 12 resident cats, all of whom were rescued and adopted by our team. We welcome Cat Colloquium’s human visitors to enjoy a peaceful sanctuary, learn how to take care of and interact with cats, and take advantage of this space to further efforts to create community. Some examples of how we foster community are:In February of 2024 we started Cat Camp, a program we launched for adults with disabilities to provide enriching activities and an opportunity to care for our cats.We also welcome many amazing volunteers that have cared for our cats and helped keep the Cat colloquium running.At the Cat Colloquium, we are cats saving people. ● Providing adults with disabilities in our community opportunities to facilitate their development in a structured environment by hosting Cat Camps – hour-long sessions that engage with our cats through cat yoga, cat-themed arts and crafts, and cat care and play.
