Adaptive recreational sports & fine arts programs make a difference in the lives of children with special needs. Programs give children with conditions like cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida, Down syndrome, Autism, brain tumors, childhood cancers, developmental delays, or other neurological disorders opportunities to participate in age-appropriate sports & fine arts activities alongside peer children with like or similar (dis)abilities. Programs are designed and taught by physical, occupational, or recreational therapists experienced with the abilities of the children. Staff (program directors, coaches, and admin support) provide oversight. Over 30 different sports, fine arts, & educational classes run year-round at locations in and around San Antonio. Programs meet the physical & developmental needs of children with a variety of disabilities. Support from therapists makes skill acquisition possible, while children are gaining health & rehabilitative benefits. Programs are divided into recreational and competitive: Parent & Me (under 5), Champions (5+ needing assistance in a group setting), AllStars (5+ requiring physical assistance), SA Premier (6+ with physical or intellectual disabilities, performing at a higher level for competition without volunteer assistance), and SA Xtreme (6+ with physical disabilities; ready for competition against peers with like abilities, has a desire to move into the Paralympic pipeline).
