For over 20 years, Humane World Foundation/Canada-formerly Friends of Humane Society International-has worked to protect animals through direct care, capacity building, research, and education. Driving for the greatest impact, we aim to achieve the vision behind our name.

We are changing the world for animals - now and in the longer term - by offering game-changing solutions that fix the systems causing animal suffering here in Canada and around the world.

Our companion animal welfare work includes large-scale rescues—such as from puppy mills—specialized care for abused animals through our Canadian care and rehabilitation centre in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, and vital spay/neuter and veterinary services in remote Indigenous communities across Quebec, Alberta, and beyond.

We build lasting change through collaboration—training and supporting shelters, veterinarians, law enforcement, governments, and community leaders.

We protect wild animals across Canada by protecting captive animals from exploitation at roadside zoos, helping communities mitigate human-wildlife conflict using non-lethal methods, supporting Indigenous wildlife stewardship, and commissioning research about wild animal welfare and conservation challenges.

Our Forward Food campaign advances sustainable food systems by partnering with major food providers across Canada. We offer culinary training, menu development, and procurement guidance to promote healthy, plant-based meals that benefit animals, people, and the environment.
