Helpless Hounds is a rescue for hound dog breeds, including beagles, Basset hounds, coonhounds, and bloodhounds. Hounds are often the victims of cruelty (including starvation and neglect), particularly if they are supposed to be a hunting dog but are afraid of the gun shot sound. Although they are extremely loving, loyal, and forgiving, hounds are misunderstood by many people who don't do the proper research before getting a hound. Hounds can be loud, boisterous, and dramatic. But they will also happily curl up on the couch with you and take a nap. They are great with kids and fun to be around. Sadly, many hounds are dumped out in the country or kept on chains. Helpless Hounds has made it our mission to help these hounds by rescuing them, vetting them, feeding them, loving them, and finding wonderful foster and forever adoptive homes. Along with finding homes for these wonderful dogs, Helpless Hounds works with other rescues to help place our hounds and strives to educate the community to the plight of these hounds as well as how wonderful and remarkable they are as companions and family members. Vet bills are expensive so Helpless Hounds has frequent fundraisers and adoption events in order to be able to financially support our rescue.
