Healing Hearts Therapeutic Farm has been providing therapeutic services since our opening in May 2019, and we have been an approved nonprofit since December 2020. The reason we chose to apply for the change to a nonprofit was to allow for our programming and services to be offered to anyone seeking them, despite the ability to pay. As a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Healing Hearts Therapeutic Farm, I have always felt a calling to advocate for and provide opportunities for those who need it the most. Our farm offers a unique therapy experience, combined with research based therapeutic modalities to encourage whole person engagement toward improving emotional regulation. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Practices and Restorative Practices. Therapy is provided in many different ways, including individual, couples, family and groups. Some of our programming at the farm includes a Veterans program called KEEPER, which stands for Knowing Every Experience Presents Emotional Response. This program encourages veterans to be fully present at the farm, bonding with the animals while they interact with them and care for them. Farm Chores and S’mores has been a real hit over the last 4 years, allowing our participating groups to assist with chores while meeting all of the animals, followed up with a bonfire and s’mores afterwards. Another unique program is the addition of three mini-cabins by a beautiful pond with a fountain. This program, Farm Friends and Fellowship, allows the adults who stay in the cabins to unplug and reset from our busy world, while connecting back with nature and the entire farm experience, including farm chores, homemade meals and true interactions. There will be weekend retreats available using the mini-cabins that will include a book or journal to guide relatable discussions, combined with a reflective session.
