About us

Grandcarers SA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organisation that advocates for and supports informal grandparent carers.   Right now we have over 1300 grandparent led families registered with us.   As informal primary carers, grandparents receive no financial support as the children they take into their care are not part of the formal government child protection system and 'this is just what families do'.   Many are surviving on pensions and superannuation.  100 percent of donations and grant money received go to our Education and Development Fund to help pay for school uniforms, equipment and community-based activity participation such as sports and the arts.  Our organisation believes that education and connection are key to healthy futures for our young people, many with trauma issues.   By encouraging them to invest in their local community through sport, the arts, or other social activities we promote a sense of security and belonging to our most vulnerable of children and inspire them to make good life choices into the future.

A small financial investment now can change a young person's future.
