For over a century, Goodwill Southern California (GSC) has been at the forefront of creating employment opportunities (over 30,000 jobseekers in 2019) in the region, especially for those from vulnerable populations. GSC's mission is to "transform lives through the power of work." We strive to create equity through economic self-sufficiency for our communities and vulnerable populations (individuals experiencing homelessness, re-entry, veterans, the uniquely abled, disconnected youth and the working poor) through our network of 14 employment centers and a large social enterprise system (retail stores, donation centers, training enclaves, and several business lines) in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. In the current environment where unemployment rates remain high, the need for GSC’s Workforce and Career Development programs is overwhelming. However, a recovery will be difficult for vulnerable communities because COVID-19 pandemic has exposed glaring gaps in job quality, access to quality training, and to digital literacy and resources, all of which must be addressed for an equitable recovery to take place. GSC expects to assist thousands of individuals to find a way back into the workforce, through help in navigating the unemployment system, gaining access to universal employment services and preparing for new jobs through reskilling and upskilling.
