Dignity and Power Now (DPN) is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization founded in 2012, dedicated to securing dignity and power for all individuals incarcerated, their families, and communities. We are a Black and Brown-led grassroots movement grounded in the principles of prison abolition, community healing, and transformative justice. Our mission is to build a movement rooted in community power to bring about a future where our people are truly free: can heal, free from cages, free from trauma, and free to thrive.

Through our programs, campaigns, and leadership development initiatives, we organize directly with incarcerated people and their loved ones to transform systems of harm into systems of care. Our work includes policy advocacy, community healing spaces, arts and culture projects, and organizing for accountability within the Los Angeles County jail system.

DPN is guided by the belief that safety comes from community, not cages. We advance abolitionist practices that center healing, justice, and the leadership of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities most impacted by state violence. Whether through our JusticeLA Coalition, Leadership Development Program, Building Resilience & Wellness Network, or Mutual Aid and Healing Programs, we are committed to creating a future rooted in collective care, freedom, and self-determination.
