About us
Dawn of Hope sponsors Royal Family KIDS Camp and Mentoring, programs specifically designed to meet the unique needs of kids in foster care. We are an all-volunteer facilitated nonprofit organization that is committed to developing partnership throughout Los Angeles County in order that we may inspire hope and a sense of value for children, youth, and families affected by foster care. We train all volunteers in trauma-informed practices and maintain a two adult to one child ratio.
Throughout the week of camp, children between the ages of 6 and 12 receive the opportunity to play and be kids in an otherwise challenging situation. Campers create at activity centers, experience music and movement in our large group gatherings, participate in evening camp activities, and pool time, where many learn how to swim for the first time, among many other opportunities, while building life-changing relationships.
Our mentoring program provides transportation to ensure our participants can attend and to alleviate the stress from care givers who are already pulled in many directions. Each month, the mentees participate in games, music and movement, have time with their mentors, and our curriculum provides engaging character lessons to encourage our mentees in their confidence and development.
