Our mission is to help families in need raise happy, healthy children while creating a more sustainable community by providing recycled clothing, baby equipment, and other basic necessities.Community Giving Tree (CGT) started as a grassroots organization in 2002, and was incorporated as a 501(3)(c) in 2009. Through an established network of social service partners, we provide basic essentials for children living in underserved communities, including Lawrence, Lowell, Haverhill, and Lynn. The gently-used clothing, diapers, and baby equipment we provide keep children safe, comfortable and warm, and also help them feel valued. We offer a green way to reduce and reuse, while also helping disadvantaged children. We are now an essential service providing everyday basics for children living in disadvantaged situations. CGT has a well-established outreach program that collects gently-used items from families that have outgrown them and want to see them used again to help others in need rather than end up in a landfill. The resources available through CGT can be life-changing for families with very limited resources. The consequences of not having appropriate clothing range from physical discomfort, to lack of self-esteem, to hygiene issues. Clean clothes that fit eliminate the obvious burden and stigma of poverty, and give confidence to growing children. Many families cannot afford costly baby equipment (car seats, strollers, and cribs). These items ensure babies sleep safely at night and can navigate their neighborhoods safely during the day. Our services allow families to focus on providing food and shelter. Our partners maintain that there is no other local resource like ours available, which allows them to find high-quality and readily available resources at no cost.
