Community Friendship Inc. is a nonprofit psychiatric rehabilitation organization that ensures a supportive community for adults with long-term psychiatric disabilities so that they can develop living, learning, working, and social skills, and access the resources needed to lead successful and satisfying lives.

Our overall goal is to enhance an individual's functionality, transcending mere symptom reduction. We measure success by enabling self-sufficiency within the community, fostering independence rather than dependency.  By prioritizing individuals’ ability to secure employment, maintain relationships, and improve housing, we redefine effectiveness in mental health care and advocate for holistic, service-driven approaches to wellness.

Our target populations are men and women aged 18 and older, with a severe and persistent mental health diagnosis (SPMI). SPMI is a term used to describe a group of mental health conditions that are chronic and make it difficult to function in daily life. Over 85% of clients are African American, with many receiving public assistance such as SSI, DSS, food stamps, Medicaid, and Medicare.  Additionally, over 60% of participants served by CFI are, or were, previously homeless prior to receiving any CFI services.
