About us

Cole’s Horse Autism Therapy Station (C.H.A.T.S) is a nonprofit organization in Yorktown, VA that offers Horse Boy / Movement Method equine therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Disabilities. The mission of C.H.A.T.S. is to help improve the lives of autistic children and their families through nature, movement, and equine therapy. The Horse Boy Method is a science-based, well researched Equine Assisted Intervention for people with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities that achieves social, behavioral, and academic goals through repatterning the brain and calming the nervous system through nature and movement with the help of an equine partner. Calming an agitated nervous system allows the child to relax and to be fully engaged in their environment so learning and communication can occur. The sensory stimulation achieved through horseback riding and learning in the natural environment reduces stress and anxiety prevalent in people with autism and intellectual disorders and increases learning potential.
